Something I Read
The Lord of the Rings
Currently, I am reading *The Lord of the Rings* series for the first time. I have never read this book series before, but I have always wanted to read it. I started *The Hobbit* a few months ago and have been reading this series for the past few months. It is an excellent series! This series would probably even make my favorite book series list, but I think it would be wrong to put a series on there that I haven’t finished reading yet! Presently, I’m about 3/4 done with *The Two Towers*. What I admire the most about *The Lord of the Rings* is Tolkien’s ability to build a different universe. The amount of thought, detail, and description he gives is phenomenal. As an author, I know how hard it is to be descriptive, but Tolkien is a master at description and world-building. I will say that it does seem to drag at points, but that is really my only critique. Even though I’m not even done with the second book, I can confidently say that I love this series, and it is one of my favorites! I can’t wait to finish reading this series and see what more Tolkien has to offer!
Something I Watched
YouTube Channels I’m Subscribed To (Part 2)
In the last newsletter, I talked about 5 of my favorite YouTube channels. Those 5 are not my only favorites, though. I actually have 5 more favorites that I would like to share with you. Here is my list of 5 channels and a little description about each. Note: These are not in any specific order.
- Dude Dad- Dude Dad creates hilarious videos about different types of people, daily life, and essential items. They are pretty funny, and my family really enjoys them!
- Dude Perfect Plus-This channel has some bloopers from the Dude Perfect videos that are on their regular channel. I wish they would post on here more often, but when they do post, the videos are pretty funny!
- Holderness Family Music- The Holderness Family brings tons of hilarious parodies from many songs. These are truly hilarious! Note: I have one of their videos linked in the Fantasy Football section because it is relevant!
- Tech Vision- Tech Vision creates videos teaching about all different sorts of things, from buildings, to technology, and more. The videos are very fascinating as well as educational!
- Zach King- Zach King is a magician who posts YouTube videos full of magic (well, they are really just illusions). His illusions are stunning and will definitely leave you confused!
There you go! Now you have the full list of 10 of my favorite YouTube channels. These aren’t the only YouTube channels I watch, but these are the main ones. They will undoubtedly get some mentions in future newsletters. Furthermore, if you think any of these might interest you, be sure to look them up!
Tech Thoughts
What Device am I using to write this blog?
Over the next few weeks, I want to take the time to let you know what tech products I actually own to help you know from what standpoint I’m coming from. The first product I’m going to discuss is the one I do all of my work on, the device I write this blog on, and the device I use for almost everything. Your first guess is probably a computer, but you would be wrong. It is an iPad! Which iPad you ask? It isn’t the iPad Pro, or the iPad Air, or anything fancy like that. Nope, it is the basic 9th Generation iPad! Let me tell you, I love this iPad and use it for literally everything! I use it for school, writing, gaming, and so much more! It is great at doing all of these things and while it may not have the processing power and graphics of the iPad Pro, it is still a great iPad. What enhances it, though, is combining it with the Apple Pencil 1st Generation and the Logitech K380 Keyboard (spoiler alert: These will be talked about in a later newsletter).
What I use my iPad for the most is getting my schoolwork done. I do at least half of my schoolwork on this device. I use it to write essays, take notes, and complete assignments. I have been using my iPad for school for at least 5 years, and it has helped me so much! I also use my iPad for writing this blog, as well as some books that I’m writing. In the future, I will definitely share some apps and tips that help level up my iPad in the regards of school and writing. Finally, I use my iPad for gaming, and it is a pretty good gaming device. I do not have a PlayStation, XBOX, or Nintendo Switch, so this iPad is my primary gaming device. Let me tell you, I’m completely fine with that. I’m content with playing an Apple Arcade game or something else on this iPad. Those are the 3 things that I use my iPad for the most. I undoubtedly use it for a lot more, but those are the biggest 3 (I think).
What I like the most about the iPad is how portable and versatile it is. It is not as big as a computer, so I can take it almost anywhere, which is great for carrying it in my backpack to school! I also like how versatile it is; it is great to be able to pull out my keyboard and write or use my Apple Pencil to get some school done or ditch them both and play a video game!
If you are contemplating whether you should get an iPad, my advice to you would be to think about what you would primarily use it for. If you edit videos or movies a lot, I would not get the 9th Generation iPad. You could go for the iPad Pro or a MacBook. If you want to have a portable device to do school on, by all means, look into getting an iPad. Tons of people at my school use iPads and love them. If you are just going to be gaming, then probably just get a designated gaming console. The list goes on and on. It truly depends on what you will be using it for. As for me, the iPad is perfect, and I will continue to use this device for a very long time!
Wild Card
Fantasy Football
Over the last few weeks, I have been playing something called Fantasy Football. Fantasy Football is where you join a league with other people and try to win the championship of the league with the best team of real players in the NFL.
The action starts on draft day, when each person selects their Fantasy Team for the whole season. The action continues each week when players match up against each other and attempt to get more points than their opponent. Players will start 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Flex, 1 Defense/Special Teams, and 1 Kicker. These players will get points from rushing yards, passing yards, receptions, defense stops, field goals kicked, etc. If you get more points than your opponent, you will win the matchup.
The last few weeks of the NFL season is the Fantasy Football Playoffs! The 4 players with the most wins will compete in the Fantasy Playoffs. Both the semi-finals and the finals span two weeks, respectively. The winner of the finals is the Champion of Fantasy! And of course, the loser of the entire league has to spend 24 hours in a Waffle House (if you eat a waffle, it subtracts an hour)!
Fantasy Football is really fun, and I have been playing it with a few family members. It really spices up watching football because now when there are games you wouldn’t normally care about, they are now interesting! I’m probably far too obsessed: always checking my team and looking at my stats, so beware of that! If you aren’t in a Fantasy Football league, and you think it would be fun, you should definitely check it out! Although the season has already started, you can still start a new league! I’ve been using ESPN Fantasy, but there are others out there. Even if you don’t draft a great team, and you stink (like me), you will still have a great time!
One more thing: The Holderness Family (which I featured above) made this hilarious video about fantasy football. Watch it here!
Thank you for continuing to read The Weekly Write-Up! I hope that you are enjoying the content that I’m sharing with you! See you next week!
