Something I Read
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
I have been reading To Kill A Mockingbird for about a month, and I just finished it about a week ago. I think this is the best book that I’ve ever read for school. Harper Lee did an amazing job in crafting this wonderful story! I have definitely read some pretty good books for school, but I believe that this one is the best I’ve ever read for school, at least. Most books I read for school, I feel like I’m forced to read the book, and I want to avoid reading it. The story of this book is fascinating, interesting, and far from boring! I actually enjoyed reading this book and couldn’t wait until I finished all my other school so that I could read it.
Okay, I’ve said how great this book is, but I haven’t really said why I think that. It truly comes down to how captivating the book is. Countless other books that I’ve read for school seem to be either dry, confusing, or just straight up boring! To Kill A Mockingbird is none of those things. The majority of school-related historical fiction books that I’ve read have paragraphs of detail and no dialogue or action. Don’t get me wrong, description can be great, but when used in the right amounts and in the right places. To Kill A Mockingbird had its fair share of description, but I didn’t feel like it was thrown at me! I genuinely enjoyed reading this book because it had a good balance between description, action, and dialogue.
I had heard from my dad that this was his favorite book that he read in High School, so I had high expectations going into it. This book met those expectations! If you have to read this book for school, don’t be depressed because you are in for a treat. If you are contemplating whether to read this book on your own, by all means read it because it is a spectacular book!
Something I Watched
MARVEL AND STAR WARS
It is impossible to share movies that I enjoy watching without addressing Marvel and Star Wars, two considerable franchises owned by Disney. That is what I would like to discuss today, how I feel about Marvel and Star Wars.
Marvel: I just started watching the Marvel movies (and shows) about a year ago and have been captivated by them ever since. At this point, I’ve seen every Marvel movie (minus X-Men, Fantastic 4, and Eternals). I really like these movies. The action keeps you on the edge of your seat, the plot line is interesting, and the way they are put together is great. Some of my favorite Marvel movies are ‘Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Infinity War, and Endgame.’ (That list was extremely hard to make, by the way). The final answer is ‘yes’ I am a massive fan of Marvel! I don’t like every movie and show they have come out with, but most of them I love, and I am going back and watching again. I’m always super pumped when each Marvel movie comes out, and I can’t wait to share them on this newsletter once they come out.
Star Wars: Unlike Marvel, I started watching Star Wars a long time ago and was introduced to it at a young age. In my opinion, the original 3 movies (4-6) are undoubtedly the best Star Wars movies. Like the Marvel movies, they have a great plot line and stunning action scenes. To me, the Star Wars movies are classics, and I have watched them multiple times. Completely random side note: If you are a Star Wars fan, you must visit ‘Galaxies Edge’ in Hollywood Studios at Disney World. Anyway, I do really like the Star Wars movies, but the new ones aren’t as good as the classics. The shows that they are creating are unique, and I have enjoyed watching some of them (more on those in a later newsletter). So, the Star Wars movies are great, and I really enjoy them!
Conclusion: So my answer is ‘yes’ I really like Marvel and Star Wars. I normally dislike being mainstream, but this time I just can’t argue that these movies are great material! Don’t worry, though, I will definitely share movies that you haven’t heard of or haven’t watched, so be looking out for those!
Tech Thoughts
APPLE PENCIL 1ST GENERATION
Last week, I discussed the iPad 9th Generation and how much I love using it and how great it is. I recently, got a product that made my iPad soar to whole new levels. That product is the Apple Pencil. The primary purpose for my Apple Pencil is doing schoolwork. I use it to take notes, fill out forms, and complete assignments. I use it for classes like History, Geometry, and Biology! Although this is the first year I’ve used the Apple Pencil, it has already become an essential device for school. I can now minimize how much paper I print out, delete rather than erase, use different colors, and so much more! I can honestly say that I would much rather pick up the Apple Pencil than a pen or regular pencil! I don’t just use my Apple Pencil for school, though. I will find myself jotting down something in a QuickNote, drawing a diagram to explain something, or even using the Apple Pencil to click around on my iPad, instead of using my finger.
I have not tried the Apple Pencil 2nd Generation simply because it isn’t compatible with my iPad, even though I would like the features that come with it. The main thing to think about when deciding if you want an Apple Pencil is what you are going to use it for. If you want to write, draw, or just need a precise tool to use with your iPad, then I imagine that the Apple Pencil would be worth it. Otherwise, I would say that it probably isn’t worth the price. You could also get the Logitech Crayon as an alternative. In conclusion, at least for me: although this device is somewhat pricy, it is most definitely worth it since I use it in my everyday workflow.
Wild Card
TICKET TO RIDE
Ticket To Ride is an engaging board game that I have been playing for years. I learned how to play this game when I was around 6 years old, and it was one of the fundamental games that made me fall in love with board games. Simply put, the goal of Ticket to Ride is to earn the most points by building trains and completing routes. This game is loads of fun, and I have played it tons of times! There are also multiple expansions and other Ticket to Ride games. I have played 6 of the expansions and 6 of the other full games! All of them are fun and change up the way the game is played!
The basic game is for 2-5 players, and I would say that it is a pretty good game, no matter how many players you play it with. As a general rule, if you play it with more players, then it will be more competitive! This game is pretty easy to learn, but fun for all ages. Like I said before, I learned to play this game at 6 years old (even though the box says 8 years old), and I still enjoy playing it now! The play time, according to the game box, is 30-60min, but as with most games, it depends on how many players you are playing it with.
Ticket To Ride has expansions and those can be very fun as well since they bring a different way to play the game! Even with all the expansions, the basic Ticket to Ride USA is one of my favorite Ticket To Ride games. This game is a classic with my family, and we have created numerous special memories playing it together! If you would like to check out all the Ticket To Ride games, you can go to the Days of Wonder website here.
