In this newsletter…
This newsletter, like newsletter #13 is a sort of special edition! Since today is New Year’s Eve, I would like to round out the year by sharing some of my favorite books, movies, and apps that I came across this year. The interesting part is they have to be new to me this year! So, this isn’t necessarily my top 5 favorite of all time, but from just this year. I hope you enjoy the rankings for 2022!
Finally, in the wild card section, I will share some stats about The Weekly Write-Up since its founding in September of this year! Enjoy the final newsletter of 2022!
Something I Read
TOP 5 BOOKS OF 2022
(5th Place) To Kill a Mockingbird
I’m actually surprised that a book that I had to read for school ended up getting in this list, but as I said in my review of this book, I really enjoyed this book. To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of Scout and her brother, Jem, as they grow up in a tough and changing world. It was not only well-written, but very enjoyable!
(4th Place) Conspiracy 365: Revenge
I’ve said in the past that I really enjoyed the original Conspiracy 365 series, and this book is no exception! This addition to the original 12-book series is action-packed and interesting. I literally couldn’t put the book down! Therefore, 4th place is where this book will reside on my list!
(3rd Place) The Two Towers
Coming in third place is The Two Towers, which is the 2nd book of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This was a great book, even though it was very slow and boring at some parts. I still really enjoyed it, though, and was able to appreciate this great literature from J. R. R. Tolkien!
(2nd Place) The Fellowship of the Ring
In second is another The Lord of the Rings book, and it is the first one of the installment, The Fellowship of the Ring. This book started the series, and I think that it is an even better book than The Two Towers. It was quite enjoyable and very well-written.
(1st Place) The Return of the King
The Return of the King wins for the best book that I’ve read this year! I know, I’m so sorry that the top 3 books were all part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Nevertheless, Return of the King was an epic ending to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Click here to read my full review on The Lord of the Ringsseries as a whole!
Something I Watched
TOP 5 MOVIES OF 2022
(5th Place) Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder was a pretty good Marvel movie, although not the best one that came out this year. It had a decent plot line and was very funny! I really enjoyed it, enough to receive 5th place!
(4th Place) Jurassic Park
While this movie certainly didn’t come out this year, it was the first time I ever saw it. The original Jurassic Parkmovie is one of the best out of the series. The excitement, action, and thrill is just about unbeatable. It is the one that started it all, and one that I certainly enjoyed watching (and jumping during)!
(3rd Place) Jurassic World
This movie also didn’t come out this year, but like Jurassic Park, it is a really great movie! Although the original Jurassic Park is good, the first Jurassic World movie is my favorite of ALL the Jurassic movies. I watched all of them this year, preparing for Jurassic World: Dominion (which is pretty good), and concluded that this one is the best. I think it has the best plot line and action, therefore giving it 3rd place!
(2nd Place) Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
This is ANOTHER movie that didn’t come out this year, but it is new to me! This is the first (and best) Pirates of the Caribbean movie! I’ve seen most of the other ones, but they aren’t as good as the original in any way, shape, or form. For a movie that was written based on a water ride, this movie is excellent. Curse of the Black Pearl has action, a great plot line (including endless plot twists), and lots of comedy!
(1st Place) Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
This was an effortless first place and the least debated (with myself) position, as Wakanda Forever is a great movie! It is the best movie I’ve seen this year, and one of the best Marvel movies I’ve ever seen! It even rivals the greatness of the first Black Panther movie! Click here to read my full review on this movie! I loved watching this movie, would totally watch it again, and have no shame in giving it 1st PLACE!
Tech Thoughts
TOP 5 APPS OF 2022
(5th Place) Color Widgets
Color Widgets allows you to create and customize a variety of widgets to spice up your home screen! I really enjoy being able to add these widgets as a finishing touch to my home screen. You can also try other apps that are good at this, like widgetsmith or this one. Click here to download Color Widgets
(4th Place) Andante
Coming in fourth place is Andante, which allows you to journal music practice sessions (or sessions of other activities). This app is useful, powerful, and has a beautiful interface! It is free to use besides a one-time $4 payment if you want more features. Pretty much any musician should check this app out because it is very useful and completely deserving of 4th place!
(3rd Place) Notion
I have heard about Notion before, but I didn’t start using it until this year. While some people build their entire lives in this app, as of now, I’m simply going to use it to track books I read in this next year. This app is great because you can do so much with it! The possibilities are literally endless! Click here to download Notion!
(2nd Place) Ulysses
I talked about this app in my newsletter last week. Ulysses is the ultimate writing app for anyone who writes! It has so many great features to enhance your writing. I use this to write all of my newsletters, and I really love it! This is completely deserving of 2nd place! Click this linkto try it for yourself!
(1st Place) GoodNotes 5
GoodNotes 5 won iPad App of the Year in the App Store, and to be honest, I thoroughly agree with this award! GoodNotes 5 presents the ultimate iPad and Apple Pencil experience. I had heard about this app before, but didn’t download it until earlier this year. I use it along with my Apple Pencil to take notes and fill out forms all the time. This app wins 1st place in my annual app analysis! You should definitely consider downloading my favorite app of 2022, GoodNotes 5!
Note: I am planning on doing a full review of this app in the future (probably next week).

Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR! See you all in 2023!
I agree about the Jurassic World movie being the best of the Jurassic dinosaur franchise. I especially was pleasantly surprised by the CGI, which is definitely a step up from Jurassic Park.
Also, great job on the 40 subscribers! (I wish I had even half that amount on itch.io)
